Police in Bergenfield NJ are trying to determine exactly what happened at a local residence where two bodies were found. At this time, authorities believe that the deaths are the result of a domestic violence murder-suicide involving a married couple.
The tragic situation went down around 10:20 a.m. at a residence located on West Clinton Street in Bergenfield, New Jersey. A young child who lived at the house contacted Bergenfield NJ police and said that he did not believe his parents were breathing.
When Bergenfield NJ cops got to the home, they saw the bodies of the boy’s parents. The female victim was a 36-year-old woman whose body was found by police in a bedroom on the upstairs floor of the residence. The other person found in the residence was a 44-year-old male who was married to the female victim; his body was discovered in a utility room located in the basement of the house.
Law enforcement indicated that they believe the female victim was shot by the male, who later used the handgun to shoot himself in the head.
Bergen County medical examiners will attempt to confirm the exact causes of death, but for the time being officials said that the probable causes of death were homicide and suicide.
Since the male victim and the female victim were married, Bergenfield NJ police and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office have classified the violent incident as a domestic violence murder-suicide. At this time, it is unclear if there were any previous instances of domestic violence or if there were any restraining orders.
