A man from Atlantic City NJ has reportedly pleaded guilty to killing his 64-year-old mother at her residence in Mays Landing, NJ.
The suspect reportedly committed the homicide in October 2014, just a few days after he had been released from Bayside State Prison. The suspect had recently completed serving a 30-year sentence for murdering his neighbor. That homicide occurred in 1984, with the suspect using a lead pipe to assault the victim and then using a handgun to shoot him to death. Although the suspect was just a teen at the time, prosecutors still tried him as an adult and sought maximum penalties in the murder case.
In October 2014, the suspect was released from prison and greeted by friends and family with a “welcome home” party. Tragically, the good vibes from the homecoming did not last. Only a few days after coming home to be with his mother, the suspect allegedly bludgeoned her to death.
According to authorities, the suspect admitted his violent crime to investigators.
The suspect is now set to spend several more decades in state prison after reaching a plea agreement with prosecutors. Under the terms of the plea deal, the suspect will likely be sentenced to a term of incarceration of 25 years in New Jersey State Prison. Moreover, the suspect will be required to serve a minimum of 85 percent of his sentence before becoming eligible for release on parole because the No Early Release Act (NERA) applies to violent criminal offenses like murder.
