Hackensack Domestic Violence LawyersOctober is domestic violence awareness month and, accordingly, the Mary Kay Foundation will be awarding $20,000 grants to 150 domestic violence shelters across the United States. Of the many donation recipients, Safe+Sound Somerset was chosen to receive one of the annual grants to help its efforts to combat domestic violence and assist with domestic rehabilitation services in Somerset County, New Jersey. According to the organization, the grand will be used to create a Wellness Lifestyle program to supplement the individual counseling, group counseling, and case management services that provide empowerment and education to the victims of domestic violence in Somerset County, NJ.

Safe+Sound Somerset is a nonprofit agency whose mission is to empower survivors of domestic abuse and engage the community to break the cycle of violence, with the universal goal of encouraging victims to come forward and providing tools that enable victims to increase their safety and reduce the risk of future harm to themselves and their children. In fact, Safe+Sound Somerset assists over 4,500 individuals every year through a comprehensive range of services to adults and children, including a 24-hour toll-free Call or Text Crisis Hotline, Domestic Violence Response Teams, an Emergency Supportive Shelter Program, Legal Advocacy, Case Management, Individual and Group Counseling, and a Transitional Housing Program. In addition to being able to use the services available at programs such as Safe+Sound, victims of domestic violence in New Jersey can also obtain temporary restraining orders (TROs) and final restraining orders (FROs) against perpetrators of the domestic abuse. In order to obtain a temporary restraining order in New Jersey, victims of domestic violence can go to the New Jersey Superior Court, Family Division between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, in the county where the domestic violence occurred or in the county where either of the parties resides. At any other time, during nights, weekends, or holidays, a victim of domestic violence can go to the police department in their municipality to obtain a temporary restraining order.
