A man from Rutherford NJ is going to be incarcerated for a very long time after he was convicted of violently assaulting the father of his ex-girlfriend in Wallington, NJ.

According to Bergen County NJ officials, the suspect was the boyfriend of the victim’s daughter until recently. Apparently, the daughter of the victim broke up with the suspect, who did not respond well. He reportedly became angry and drove to the father’s residence in Wallington, New Jersey. Once the suspect arrived at the victim’s home, he violently attacked the victim.

The victim sustained significant physical injuries as a result of the brutal attack.

It is unclear if the suspect was subject to a restraining order at the time he committed the violent crime.

Not long after the assault incident, local law enforcement placed the suspect under arrest. He was subsequently charged with multiple crimes, including attempted murder, aggravated assault, burglary, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and hindering apprehension. Additionally, the suspect was charged with altering or destroying computer data after the fact in an effort to hide evidence of his crime.

The suspect failed to reach a plea deal with the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, meaning that he had to stand trial on the very serious criminal charges. At the conclusion of the trial in Bergen County Superior Court, located in Hackensack NJ, the suspect was convicted of burglary, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and hindering apprehension. The jury did return one verdict in favor of the suspect: he was found not guilty on the charges of attempted murder.

Since the suspect has spent the last five years in Bergen County Jail in Hackensack, he will receive credit for the time he has already served.

The suspect will have to return to the Bergen County Superior Court at a later date for a formal sentencing hearing.
