Newark NJ law enforcement is investigated a recent shooting that may soon be classified as a domestic violence incident. The violent incident resulted in one person sustained significant physical injuries.

The shooting occurred after midnight at a residence in the area of South 7th Street and 12th Avenue in Newark, New Jersey.

The victim, a 47-year-old male who lives in Newark, suffered at least one gunshot wound. Almost immediately after the shooting, someone dialed 911 and alerted the Newark Police Department.

Newark NJ cops and emergency medical responders quickly arrived at the home and briefly treated the shooting victim before taking him to nearby University Hospital. Doctors at the Newark NJ hospital provided further medical treatment to the victim and stabilized him.

When the victim was well enough to talk, Newark NJ detectives spoke with him and tried to get to the bottom of what happened. However, the victim has reportedly refused to cooperate with investigators and is said to be reluctant to name the individual who caused his gunshot-related injuries.

According to Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose, it is very possible that the shooting incident could be related to domestic violence. In many domestic violence cases, the victim is often reluctant to share details that might get their significant other into any trouble with the law, whether it’s a husband, wife, boyfriend, or girlfriend.

In this possible domestic violence case, it is unclear if the shooting victim had previously sought, or obtained, a restraining order against the suspect. In the event that the suspect violated a restraining order by coming into contact with the victim, whether it was a temporary restraining order (TRO) or a final restraining order (FRO), she would likely face significant criminal penalties.

It is also possible that the shooting suspect could be subject to serious criminal charges for aggravated assault or even a domestic violence weapons offense, depending on the findings of the Newark NJ police investigation.
